Literacy is at the Heart of Coding Playgrounds For Young Learners

This two-hour workshop provides hands-on activities with coding so teachers are more confident integrating coding playgrounds in their classrooms.  ScratchJr and Lego WeDo 2.0 are featured along with Hour of Code, and Hopscotch.

STARS @ Night Shine Brightly.

February 23, 2018.

The purpose of this presentation was to present research on the STARS @ Night grant conducted at Kendall Whittier Elementary School, Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma.  This grant was awarded to determine if parent participation in their child's reading skill practice made significant improvements in the child's reading ability when compared with students that did not have a parent participate in the STARS @ Night program.

The purpose of the presentation was to offer participation in multicultural education activities which can be implemented in an early childhood classroom.  The participants engaged in a discussion of race, culture, ethnicity, and children's literature during active participation in a variety of multicultural activities.  Benefits of incorporating multicultural education activities in an early childhood classroom were shared.
